If it’s teaching us to forgive the poor, tortured bully I will kill everything. Because, you know, that’s totally the message we needed to take away from that whole storyline. Forget about the true victim and woobify the bully.
The ‘woobified bully’ who has expressed how honestly sorry he is about all the bullying, has personally acknowledged that his anger and violence towards others has stemmed from his own insecurity about his sexuality, has proved to be an actual nice person and ‘gasp’ a human being too when in a situation where he is comfortable, and who is taking baby steps towards accepting himself and towards being a better person.
Dave Karofsky is far from a generalised woob, in fact, to be honest, he’s really the only character on this whole show whose had some consistant character development.
I’m sorry, I should’ve clarified what, exactly, I meant when I said that. Personally, I feel that this might go the direction of Dave being all “I was in love with Kurt and didn’t know how to handle it so I lashed out.” and that is so offensive on so many levels I don’t know where to begin. Dave bullied Kurt. Badly. Horrendously. He used sexual harassment to terrify Kurt and keep him down so he could control him so no one would know of his own sexuality. NOTHING makes that ok. Absolutely nothing. If they go the route of Dave being “in love” with Kurt or having a crush or whatever then they will basically be legitimizing what he did by saying “But it was done out of heartbreak and love and we should feel sorry for him.” Top this off with Kurt apologizing for not realizing Dave’s feelings and being sensitive of them and you have me about to strangle everyone involved with writing episodes of Glee. I do not want to learn that lesson because it’s a terribly offensive lesson. What Dot is talking about might not have a single thing to do with this but it’s my fear and I am preemptively angry about it.
Also, consistent character development? Any development he had came right the fuck out nowhere. He went from being a complete dick and tracking Kurt and Blaine down so he could demoralize them in Night of Neglect to being forced into apologizing two episodes later and, clearly, not meaning any of it to crying out an apology two episodes later. I get that we’re supposed to believe that he feels bad and has redeemed himself but it does not feel earned or realistic or consistent at all because EVERYTHING happened off screen. They fucked that storyline up so bad and I do not want to be reminded of how terrible it was. Having a character go from being one way to suddenly being another and not being focused on enough for him to have time to go back doesn’t count as “consistent character development.”
^^ That last comment basically sums up ALL of my feelings on Karofsky. Character redemption that came out of absolutely NOWHERE and was horribly botched. I really hope he’s not actually back for 3.14 -___-
